The content of overlapped parts is common for both grids.
Rules are satisfied for each grid independently.
Rules:
Place the given fleet into the grid.
Ships cannot touch each other even diagonally.
Digits outside show the number of cells occupied by the ships in the correspnding row or column.
Ships cannot cross over the edge of a grid into another grid.
I stared at these two puzzles for 2 days before coming back and realizing there's an added rule. It then went quite smoothly, and I found the 2nd one really entertaining the way the grids got filled up.
